“I think it should be very clear that the United States has no ambition to have permanent bases in this region….That is indicative of the U.S. posture. We do not covet military basing. We do appreciate international cooperation and access for our forces and for other countries, many other countries that are temporarily involved in this effort to fight global terrorism.”
